What a weekend
So this weekend was rather busy. Friday night I went out with my cousin to help her find some shoes and accesories for my moms appreciation dinner saturday. After that we came back home and chilled. I decided to call my friend J since I hadn't talked to her in a while and I'm glad I did. She sounded really down and so we talked for a really long time. She has a lot of relationship issues going on and needed to talk. Not only did I lift her spirits but she helped me to realize some things to about myself and the way I deal with realtionships. She also helped me to see what things I am willing to put up with and what things I refuse to let happen. I hated to see her bad experiences be my lessons but it helped me see that disrespect, sneakiness, telling half truths and a myriad of other things are not conducive to a productive relationship of any type. After that I talked to another friend of mine onthe phone and then spent some time writing.
Saturday was pretty busy. I went to bed late (like 5am) so it was a true struggle for me to wake up at 10:30. I had to pack, iron, do my hair and then go get my brows waxed by 12:30 and that was hectic. When I finally got back to my house my mom and cousin were waiting for me and we headed out to Tysons. We went to the Sheraton and checked in and then my mom and myself ran out to get something to eat and shop. By the time we got back it was basically time to get ready. Three women in a suite is quite hectic. But it was cool. I had to do my moms makeup and got her beautified since she was one of the honorees for the evening.
The evening was a lot of fun/interesting. My mom got her 20 years of service plaque and I got to interact and put on the fake smile with her coworkers. At the beginning it was cocktail hour with the cash bar and it was crazy to see these chicks getting pissy before the function even began. Then when the dinner started the servers were pouring wine as soon as your cup was less then half full so people were getting drunk off of that and were still going to the cash bar in the back. Then I see a server coming out with this kitchen size bottle of hot sauce. All I could think in my head was noooo. I knew he was going to the table in the back where all the black people were sitting lol. Now I know people like hot sauce and I can deal with that (I'm not a hot sauce user) but let me tell you that nothing we had required it lol. The entree was a mixed plate with a petite filet mignon, chilean sea bass, risotto and steamed veggies. Can someone tell me what was the hot sauce for?
Then after all was done they had dancing. For the crowd of people that my mom works with and what the DJ looked like his music was so on point. I have never ever in my life seen a 45 year old white DJ with a vest and bowtie not only play the electric slide, the cha cha slide, the bootie call and step in the name of love but get out on the floor with a microphone and showed the crowd how to do it. I mean he was getting down lol. Then 45 year old white DJ with a vest and a bowtie played Atomic Dog.
At first I thought I was hearing stuff because I was in the hall. So I walked in the room and sure enough white DJ was playing it my cousin just looked at me and laughed and then he went from that to Brickhouse. I've never seen an old white DJ play Lil' John and Nelly and Beyonce when he knew he was coming to an event for the older crowd. His music was so on point that this firefighters association that was having their event in the adjacent ballroom left their event and came over to ours. I swear I had so much fun lol. The shoes I had on were sit and be pretty shoes, I was not prepared to be stepping and spinning and teaching 50 year old white ladies how to do the electric slide (which I do once every 2 years lol) in some 4 inch heels. But I had a ball. When the night was over I went back up to the suite and showered and passed out.
Today I got up and went to the pool. After everyone packed up and got dressed we checked out and went to Tysons and spent a little cash and then went to brunch at the Ritz Carlton. I've been lazing around the rest of the day watching movies and reading....
Let's see what this week holds
